WHAT WAS A ROMAN DAGGER OR KNIFE LIKE?

The dagger called pugio in Latin was another weapon used by the Roman legions. Its primitive use dates back to the Republican era, although it fell into oblivion among the Roman army, from which the Praetorian Guard rescued it, rather than as a weapon as an element of condition and decoration. According to the regulations, the minimum width of the blade of a Roman dagger had to measure between 3 and 6 cm. wide, and between 18 and 36 cm. long.

The pilum or Roman spear is not documented, used by the Romans, until the 3rd century BC. C. It soon became part of the essential armament of the Roman soldier. It was a weapon that underwent multiple transformations over time. This weapon essentially consisted of an iron pole that ended in a pyramid-shaped tip, which was set into a wooden handle. Its dimensions were different since they fluctuated between 1.5 m., and 2 m, as well as its weight moved in an interval between two and five kilos. Its range was very small, about 30 meters, so it is assumed that in combat the soldiers lined up in 2 lines, each one with a pilum. They were thrown first by those in the first row, and then by those in the second row.
