KING ARTHUR AND THE WIZARD MERLIN
The myth of Merlin arose in the 12th and 13th centuries, when a series of chroniclers made a bard, who perhaps had an existence of more than 500 years, an essential reference in Arthurian legends. Although his figure appears linked to Celtic mythology, some believe that he is a real person who lived in the sixth century.

The story/legend of the wizard Merlin is born with the figure with Myrddin Wyllt , a madman and visionary present in the Welsh medieval chronicle. Geoffrey (Godfrey) of Monmouth, an Augustinian bishop and poet, is responsible, through his literary works, for Myrddin 's being considered Wyllt as the wizard Merlin.
Merlin's relationship with King Arthur stems from the situation in which Uther Pendragon (Arthur's father) falls in love with Igraine , but this woman is married to Gorlois . Duke of Tintagel . Uther is so in love that he does not hesitate to start a war against the duke. He locks Igraine in his castle, but she repeatedly resists Uther's intentions. Desperate, he asks Merlin for help. He gives it to him by means of a concoction that makes Igraine and Uther come together , since said concoction makes Arturo look like a double of Gorlois . Merlin asks in return that they give him the son that is born from said carnal council. Gorlois dies and then Uther takes Igraine as his wife .
Arthur is born from that union and Merlin claims him and takes him away and leaves him under the guardianship of the knight Hector, but always under the supervision of Merlin. Arturo becomes a skilled combatant. At the age of 16, he is taken by Merlin to where the Excalibur sword was, stuck in a rock. No one could get it out. This sword gave access to the kingdom of England. Arthur unlocks her later becoming King of England . Merlin has acted since then as the king's guide.
Merlin is a mythological being in Celtic culture. He is credited with creating the megalithic monument of Stonehenge, as well as the Round Table of King Arthur's Knights. It represents nature. Interpret the movement of the stars. See the future and the past. Predict the hidden. Merlin teaches his disciples his magical knowledge. Curiously, it usually houses in the mountains.
It seems, according to many sources, that Merlin never died. It is said that Merlin, being very old, knows of a beautiful young woman, Nimue , that he calls her The Lady of the Lake and falls in love with her without remission. Nimue asks him to instruct her on everything he knows, giving her love hope. Merlin does what she wants and teaches her everything. Once this happened , Nimue betrays him and through a spell locked him in an underground cave, and closed it with a large magical rock. Merlin could not leave that place where he died.
Merlin has been the subject of attention from multiple writers and appears in a large number of literary works and legends, yet strangely enough he deserves little attention from the great medieval poet Chretien de Troyes .
We are inclined to the theory that Merlin never existed, but that he is a literary product, the result of the illusion of the writers, based on the imagination of the writers and on testimonies transmitted by word of mouth by the people.
THE SWORD OF KING ARTHUR AND DAGGER OF MERLIN
Some authors believe that Merlin, at the beginning of his public life, was a great warrior, son of a king. He was the bearer of the sword EXCALIBUR, which The Lady of the Lake made, and which had magical powers, such as dazzling his enemies and stopping bleeding. It seems that after one of the many battles that took place at that time, to take the throne of England, he stuck his sword into a rock, saying that it would be the king who would unnail it. At the age of 16 Arthur Pendragon did it and he became the holder of the sword and the king of England. At Arthur's death the sword returned to the lake from which it was born.
In some writings there is talk of Merlin's dagger, but there is no description of it and if it had a name .
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EXCALIBUR SWORD?
Dying in Avalon , King Arthur returned the sword to the wizard Merlin, who in turn decided to deliver it to The Lady of the Lake, where it had come from. A beautiful hand emerged from the water, grabbed the sword and very slowly Excalibur was sinking into the icy waters of the lake.
