Aventail Chainmail Ruff

Strong zinc plated mesh aventail with leather trim, ID 8mm. An aventail is a piece of chain mail that was attached to the helmet in the Middle Ages for additional neck and shoulder protection. The preferred helmets were, for example, the nasal helmet, but above all the bascinet from the late Middle Ages or one of its versions, the skull or pig face helmet. This chainmail aventail features a genuine jagged edge and a thick top-stitched cowhide strap. The fixing holes must be drilled in the leather by the customer. This chain mail is made of galvanized, round, spliced rings. Zinc plating on the surface of the rings provides protection against corrosion (rust).
