The lorica hamata was a type of armor used by Roman soldiers. It was made from twisted iron wires and resembled a thick mesh. It was heavier and less flexible than chain mail, but it provided greater protection against attacks with swords and arrows. The lorica hamata was also cheaper to produce than chain mail and was widely used in the Roman army, especially during imperial times. Although not as popular as chain mail, the lorica hamata remained an important part of Roman military armor for centuries.
