The Seax, or Sax, is a weapon that was carried by most of the peoples of northern Europe. Carried and used by the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and German tribes, its first use probably dates from before the fall of Rome and continued until the early Middle Ages. The pattern of the Seax varied greatly from the small blade knife of 7 and 10 cm in length to the real swords of 68 to 71 cm but always on a single edge. The original version of this great knife was used both as field work, as court work, aboard the ship and or to combat if the sword or ax was not available.
