Viking Shield 'Huginn & Muninn' 80 Cm

The twin bird motif is a representation of Odin's faithful messengers Hugin e Munin (or Huginn e Muninn), a recurring theme in Viking art. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard, returning each night to the father of the gods (also known as Hrafnáss, the raven god) to tell him all they have seen and heard. In the center, the shield features a large steel boss that is fastened tightly with four rivets, leaving enough room to accommodate even the strongest Viking hands. The edge of the shield is lined with rawhide (parchment), and the back is fitted with three riveted wooden reinforcing strips. The center slat doubles as a handle and is leather-wrapped in its center section for a comfortable grip.
