Archer Sallet Helmet With Visor
The late medieval archer's sallet is made from 1.6mm steel. The helm is fitted with a hinged face shield and adorned with a brass cross and engraved leaf motifs. The visor is rectangular in shape with a 2 cm wide eye slit with an extended lower lip that not only ensures sufficient vision but also allows good ventilation. Brass fittings, leather inlays, leather chin strap. Weight: approx. 3 kg.
In the 15th century the combat helmet known as the sallet replaced the bascinet and by the middle of the century, it had become one of the most widely worn helmets in all of Europe. This type of helmet could be found in many different shapes and variations, from simple to elaborately crafted, open or with a visor, with a more or less pronounced tail, etc.
