English Visored Helm
The rebuild we offer here is made from 1.6mm (16 gauge) steel for combat reenactment. The visor is a split construction consisting of two independent parts hinged at a single pivot point on either side of the temples, so the wearer can choose to lift just the top or the entire face shield. The entire front half is attached to the same pivots as the two-part visor and can be hinged open, allowing the helmet to fit snugly around the head. It then closes with a side hook. The helmet features a generously sized central crest or crest, approx. 6 cm long, 0.8 cm wide eye slits and numerous cutouts for proper ventilation. Material: 1.6mm steel, leather inlays, leather chinstrap with brass buckle. Weight: approx. 4kg
This beautiful helmet with hinged visor is a reproduction of a typical early 16th century medieval jousting helmet known as a closed helmet. Developed in the late 15th century, the closed helm was worn by knights and men-at-arms in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. It was a completely closed helmet that protected both the head and the neck. While it also saw battlefield service, it was extremely popular for use during tournaments. The most distinctive feature that sets this visor helmet apart from the sallet and armet (from which it evolved) is the completely different opening and closing mechanism, consisting of an integral swivel mechanism that opens vertically rather than laterally and is connected to the split visor by the same pivots.
