The great helms worn by kings on the battlefield were often equipped with a crown to distinguish them from others and highlight their status. In this way, they could easily be recognized by their own troops in the fray and receive special protection. It may also have given them the option of being held hostage and held for ransom instead of being killed outright by the opposing forces. The finely handcrafted medieval helmet we offer here is crafted from 1.6mm (16 gauge) steel and adorned with a riveted brass crown. All components are connected by steel rivets. Each eye opening is approx. 13 cm long, 0.5 to 1 cm wide and the numerous round cutouts on the right side of the rudder ensure proper ventilation.
