Roman Cavalry Helmet Deurne S. Iv.
Elaborate reconstruction of a late Roman cavalry helmet like the one found near Deurne, the Netherlands. The intricate ornamentation suggests that the wearer was a very high-ranking officer. A Roman coin found near the helmet bears the date 319, so the helmet is most likely from the early 4th century. The crown of the helmet is made of 6 individual parts (spangen). The jaw pieces are easily movable. The neck protection is attached by two leather buckled straps and is removable and adjustable. The helmet is handcrafted from steel and brass and is comfortable thanks to its leather inlay. The nose pieces, the jola and the nape are covered with red leather on the inside. Size: approx. 24in. weight: approx. 3kg
