Late Roman Berkasovo Officer Helmet
Helmet of a late Roman officer from Berkasovo. Following the typical helmet form of the late imperial period, this helmet found in Berkasovo (present-day Serbia) is distinguished by its rich ornamentation with jewelery and gold and silver applications. The numerous ornaments explain the considerable weight of the helmet of more than 4 kg. The elaborate decorations suggest that the wearer was probably an officer of the highest rank. Our helmet is fitted with a red leather inlay. The ornaments are made of glass. The cheek and neck protectors are padded on the inside. Material: brass and glass, Suitable for a head circumference of up to 61 cm. Weight: approx. 3.2kg.
