Torshov viking sword with scabbard
This functional Viking sword is based on a find in Torshov (Gjerdrum) in southern Norway. The hilt is classified as type H, which was very common between 800 and 950 AD.
Many finds of similar hilt fittings, such as guards and pommels, are evidence of the popularity of this style. This early medieval blunt sword is hand forged. Guard and pommel are made of heat-treated malleable cast iron. The spring steel blade is oil hardened to 48-50° Rockwell, forged to the hilt and hammered to the pommel. The wooden gip is wrapped with a leather rope. The blade has a distinctive fuller that offers flexibility and lighter weight. The edges of this sword are blunt and the tip is rounded for safety. - Blade material: EN45 spring steel, heat-treated. - Rockwell hardness of the blade: 48-50° HRC. - Total length: approx. 96 cm. - Blade length: approx. 78.5cm. - Width of the blade at the guard: approx. 58mm. - Balance point: approx. 14cm. - Border thickness: approx. 2 mm.- Includes leather-wrapped wooden scabbard- Weight (sword only): approx. 1600 gr.
CATEGORY B: Carbon steel swords of high quality and well balanced, but less hard than category A. They support well controlled combat without strong blows. They must be used with swords of the same hardness. They cannot be guaranteed because they can suffer damage if they collide with harder blades, so it is recommended not to use them with Category A swords. The minimum hardness is 48 HRC. They are full tang, bolted or welded to the grip. Light and easy to handle with a balanced center of gravity. They have a blunt edge and are not sharp. These types of swords are intended for performing arts, recreation, historical fencing (HEMA) training and combat. The double-edged EN45 hardened spring steel blade tapers slightly towards the tip and has a length of approx. 2 cm wide fuller extending almost the entire length of the blade on both sides. The thick edges are not sharp and the full tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The wooden hilt has a tight binding of brown leather cord. It is framed by a robust pommel and straight crosshead, both made of steel. The guard is approx. 16.5 cm long and approx. 2 cm thick at the center, with quills tapering to approx. 0.5 cm in cylindrical shape. The long, double-edged blade is forged from hardened and tempered EN45 steel. It tapers gently towards the tip and fills out about half its length on both sides, with a flattened diamond cross section to the tip. The thick edges are not sharp, the point is rounded, and the full tang of the blade is bolted to the pommel. The hilt is composed of a wood-core grip wrapped in black leather, a steel flattened cross guard, and an elongated hexagonal scent stopper pommel, also steel, with slightly concave facets and a recessed cross on one side. The guard is about 23 cm long and 0.5 cm thick. His hawks have flared terminals, each decorated with a cross-shaped cutout. This late medieval hand and a half sword comes complete with a black wood and leather scabbard with a blued steel neck and cap.
