Claymore is a double edged sword which required both hands to be wielded. Its long hilt (at least one-quarter of the weapon´s total length) allowed the user to handle it without having to force the maneuvers or grab it by the base of the blade. It was used in combat on foot, designed to effectively attack plate armour and chainmail. They were used and developed by Scottish highlanders from shorter sword models. In the 13th century these swords were wielded by the Scots in their fight against the English invader.
